Day 2 & 3 - Driving out of the cold

DAY 2 & 3:   We spent these 2 days driving as we tried to find warmer weather so that we may set up in the trailer.  Spent the 2nd night in the Best Western in Idaho Falls (minus 12). 023 Not much in Idaho Falls, very nice hotel though as I was able to lean on my Hotel experience as we were able to get $30 off (industry rate), kids eat free at dinner and free breakfast for all!!!!

We left Idaho Falls early, made our way to Utah.   On our way, we stopped in Salt Lake City and visited the Natural History Museum.  The kids were excited as it was featuring a dinosaur exhibit. 044 Museum was truly unique as it was an old building on the Utah State University grounds.  The University was in a beautiful location of Salt Lake as it had historic bldg’s, & mature trees.  After we left, we were able to purchase our first groceries for the trip.  We then found a little private campground outside of Provo.  This was our first night in the trailer.   Temp. outside was about –2degrees.  We were able to cook up a good meal (helped to warm up the trailer) and everyone slept very well.  I am grateful 039that we put our own mattress on the bed.   Tomorrow, we are off to Nevada and are looking forward to some warm weather.

Day 12 –13: Loving San Diego

We left the RV Park in Anaheim on Feb.12th and took a drive to Huntington Beach.  Trevor got his bike out and road along the ocean path while the kids and I played in the sand and walked the pier.  We spent the night in a state park between LA and San Diego.  It was nothing fancy or exciting and really expensive because it is close to the beach.  Most beach sites are $60 for full hook-up.  We were able to get this site for $35 (no hook-ups).  Expensive considering you still had to pay to have a shower.  The following morning I went for a run to the ocean.  There was a steady stream of walkers and bikers with surf-boards in tow.  When I got to the beach at 8:30am it was already teaming with men in black (wetsuits).  From LA to San Diego there were numerous beaches all filled with surfers.  From a distance, all you see along the shores are bobbing black dots (surfers).

We arrived in San Diego on Feb. 13th and found a nice RV park253 to stay in for a couple nights. Once again it was expensive, priced at $50 (partial hook-up).  We stayed for 2 nights as it we were all enjoying San Diego and the RV park had a pool and playground for the kids.   Last night they had live music which the 4 of us danced a few songs to last night.  Today the Cool picture of Kiah dancing!!weather was 22 degrees and we had a great day in the sun.  The kids biked along a path around 262  Mission Bay to the open ocean, while Trev and I ran.  It was a great workout as we were able to run for about an hour & half.  Unlike other states, people in this area were noticeably super fit.  The path was busy with roller bladders, runners and bikers, while the bay was filled with sail boats, rowing shells and kayaks.  Just a few days ago while at Disney I was thinking I could afford to eat a few extra donuts but after seeing all the buff bodies here I feel like a jelly roll!  The kids are super tired from the sun, biking and pool!  Tomorrow we will head in the direction of Tucson, Arizona!   It is about a 7 hour drive west, plus you loose an hour due to the time change.  Our goal is to get just past Yuma, which borders California, Arizona and Mexico.  This should be about 3.5hours drive.

Day 1- The adventure begins

Hello Everyone,
Before we begin to update you on our travels, our family would like to extend our gratitude to all of those that were able to gather on our last evening in Canmore. This lasting memory could not of happened without our good friends, Lisa & Remo, who put this all together. It was great to share quality time along with great food & wine with friends over the past week. We will surely miss you all. Please let us know if anyone feels like making last minute plans to visit Mexico as we would love to host friends in our trailer.

DAY 1: We got an early start this morning, leaving Shelly & Dan's at 6:30am. We took a slightly different route then planned & stopped for lunch at a family restaurant in Cardston, Alberta. We were in the truck for quite some time up to this point. Ironically, the first person we speak to is the restaurant owner, who was........Mexican! He was super friendly & gave us lots of great advice, making us even more excited about our trip. We were pleasantly surprised that the restaurant was Mexican, so we ordered the quesidilla & burrito but held back on the Margarita's....for now. We crossed the US border at a very small crossing &breezed right through. The drive was very dull but the kids did exceptionally well as Trae thought the wind power towers were cool. They watched a bit of movies and lots of activities and we even managed to complete Kiah's first day of home school (RV School). We are now at a hotel in Grand Falls Montana this evening and plan on having another long day of driving tomorrow.
Cheers to all!!!
